Same-day appointments, home visits, and more.

After 10 years in private practice, I decided to change how I practice medicine. By cutting out the insurance middle-man, I am able to spend more time serving your family. You’ll get my undivided attention, even when you’re not in the office!

I am putting the focus back on you and your child. Because you deserve better care. Care that is unrushed, in-depth, and attentive to your family’s individual needs.

Why I changed the way I practice medicine

When I started practicing pediatrics, I had a vision to be my families' go-to expert for all things kid-related. I wanted to be there for all the milestones, to answer any and all questions, to guide parents through parenting rough spots, and to be the one to examine my patients, whether they were well or sick.

In over 10 years of practicing within the traditional insurance model, I found that my vision was gradually chipped away by the demands of insurance companies. Appointment time slots were 5-15 minutes long, leaving precious few minutes to connect with my families. I had to rush to keep from running too far behind, and had to delegate parent calls and messages to be answered by my staff. Families weren't guaranteed to see me when their child was sick.

In Blossom's membership model, we place the focus on you and your child, not on fulfilling insurance companies' rules that don't benefit you. Visits take as long as needed and are regularly scheduled for 30-60 minutes. Our scheduling allows for personalized, in-depth care with little to no wait time. You'll get our full attention, even when you aren't in the office. I personally respond to messages and calls and in many cases, you may not need an in-person visit if the issue can be resolved virtually. You'll see me for all visits, ensuring proper continuity of care, with someone who thoroughly knows your child's needs.

Freed from the time constraints of insurance-controlled care, I am able to provide in-home 4th trimester (postpartum) care and comprehensive newborn tongue-tie/lip-tie treatment. The postpartum period is a critical transition that deserves detailed care and attention; I offer an intensive level of support during this challenging time. My lactation knowledge infuses the care I provide, from general pediatric care, to postpartum support, to tongue-tie treatment. I have applied extensive expertise to my tongue-tie evaluation and treatment process, which has brought relief to families struggling with feeding issues from tongue-tie.

How Membership Works

01
One Affordable Monthly Fee
Within our membership model, your child will get comprehensive care for a simple monthly fee. There are no surprise fees, co-pays, or deductibles.
02
All General Pediatric Services Are Included
In-person well or sick visits, telehealth, and procedures like ear wax removal and simple laceration repair are all part of your membership. Have peace of mind that you can easily reach your doctor for concerns. You can text, email, and call her directly, without extra charges. Additional services are available, including postpartum, lactation, and tongue-tie, for a separate fee. Vaccines are not included in our monthly fee and are likely covered by your insurance.
03
Use Insurance for the Big STuff
When insurance dictates how a pediatric practice is run, care tends to be rushed, out of necessity. In order to provide the highest-quality, most in-depth care, we keep insurance out of the picture, but you are free to use it for everything outside of our practice.

Common Questions

Feel free to reach out via info@blossomfamilies.com for further questions.
Why doesn't Blossom take insurance? I have great insurance and do not want to pay extra for pediatric care.
When insurance companies dictate how payment works, they also affect how healthcare is delivered. Doctors have to see patients in 10-15 minute chunks, patients are rushed in and out of the office, and care is often fragmented. You may not see your doctor at each visit and may have a hard time getting a same-day sick visit appointment. When doctors are tied up seeing 25-30 patients a day, they often do not have the time to answer your calls and messages in a timely manner, or they have to delegate them to their less experienced staff.
Blossom bypasses insurance, so that we are able to give you the time and attention that is needed for the highest quality service. We are able to keep our practice small, which allows us to be extremely responsive to your needs. You'll enjoy longer, unrushed visits with little to no wait time. We get to know your family well, providing in-depth and personalized care. Dr. Chan is easily accessible by telehealth, phone, text, and email during office hours and personally responds to your questions. Many times, an in-person visit may be avoided if the issue can be resolved virtually. After hours, for urgent matters, you would speak to Dr. Chan directly, instead of a triage nurse or on-call doctor who does not know your child. Furthermore, without the demands of traditional insurance practice, Dr. Chan is able to dedicate time for in-home postpartum and lactation support and in-depth tongue-tie treatment.
Do I still need insurance for my child if we are members of Blossom? What if I have a health share plan, Medicaid, or Tricare?
We highly recommend having insurance for services we are unable to provide, like specialist care, hospitalizations, accidents, and emergencies. A PPO plan would allow us to refer your child to specialists, whereas an HMO plan would only let an in-network physician conduct referrals (we are considered out-of-network). If you have a high-deductible plan, where you may end up paying out-of-pocket for most doctor visits, see if a membership with Blossom would offer greater value for your investment. Insurance is also helpful in covering vaccine costs, outside laboratory services, and X-ray or imaging services. If you do not have insurance, we can assist you in finding lower-cost options for services we do not cover.
If you are a member of a health sharing ministry or medical cost sharing community, check if our monthly membership is eligible for sharing. Even if it is not, you may find our membership provides more value than paying out of pocket at a traditional insurance practice.
If you have a federally funded insurance plan like Medicaid or Tricare, please inform us prior to enrolling, as certain federal rules may apply.
How does Blossom accept payment? Do you offer sibling or family discounts? Can I get reimbursed from my insurance company?
We accept payment by credit card and ACH transfer, either of which will be charged monthly for your membership fee. There is a one-time, non-refundable enrollment fee for our pediatric memberships. We offer a discount for paying upfront for a year.
We do offer sibling discounts and have a maximum monthly amount that each family would pay.
We can provide a superbill upon request, for services provided, for you to submit to insurance for reimbursement. We do not guarantee any reimbursement nor do we bill insurance directly for our services. We are considered out-of-network with insurance companies.
What is your vaccination policy? How will vaccine costs be covered?
We believe that vaccinations are safe and effective for preventing childhood illnesses that can be devastating and even deadly. We highly recommend following the CDC schedule for childhood vaccinations. If you do not wish to vaccinate your child for personal reasons, we may not see eye-to-eye on various other important medical decisions; it may be best if you find another pediatrician who shares your views.
Blossom will exhaust all measures to ensure vaccinations are accessible and affordable for our families. We partner with a third-party vendor who delivers vaccines to our office and bills your insurance for them. If your insurance does not cover vaccinations or you do not have insurance, you may obtain them free from the health department, or we can provide them to you at cost.
How do I join Blossom? How do I cancel my membership? What if I only want the 4th trimester or Tongue-tie package, or standalone lactation services?
When you hit the "Join Blossom Today" button, it will take you to a scheduling page, where you can schedule a complimentary "Meet and Greet" with Dr. Chan. We'll chat, go over any questions, review pricing, and decide if we are a good fit for each other! Once you've decided to join, we'll send over the necessary paperwork.
You may cancel your membership at any time with a 30-day notice. Unused pre-paid membership fees past the 30-day notice will be refunded in full. If you decide to re-enroll, you may be subject to a re-enrollment fee.
You do not need to be a member to access our 4th trimester or tongue-tie packages or lactation services. We require a non-refundable deposit to book the 4th trimester package, with the balance due prior to the first visit. For the tongue-tie package, payment is due at the time of the first visit. Lactation services for non-members are charged per visit.
